The Concept
Emerging in response to an era dominated by homogenized, commercially-driven artists, this project sought to redefine what it meant to be an artist. It questioned the authenticity of contemporary music production and artist development, challenging the industry’s hyperfixation on mass appeal and financial success.
The Problem

The industry has become too fixated on endorsing artists guaranteed to reach commercial success. What began as an artform has become a market oversaturated with homogenous “artists” who all look, sound, and act the same. Their “artistry” is simply a template creating the most interchangeable and repetitive “artists” in mainstream media.

The Solution

Modern Genre takes the concept of being an “indie artist” to the next level through:

  • Transparency in creative process and development
  • Original composition and authentic performances
  • Relatable content and genuine messaging
  • Direct artist-fan engagement
  • Unfiltered satire through a sociologist lens
Little Fish (Debut Album)

I kept ‘Waiting’ (ironically) for the perfect time to release this album, which I’ve come to learn does not exist. Which is a good thing because I’ve come to learn that one has the liberty to create their own idea of ‘perfect’.” An intimate journey into the heart and mind, Little Fish represents more than just a collection of songs – it’s a vulnerable exploration of personal growth, societal reflection, and raw emotion.

start of an album.

Well here I am. I was born and now I’m here recording this. Is this why I was born? Or did I simply stumble upon this? Call it fate, call it karma — regardless, I’m just happy to be here.

Waiting.

An introspective piece about finding the courage to share your art, realizing there’s no “perfect moment” except the one you create.

Que Pegue (Bossurfnova)

“Can I get a translator please?” A playful exploration of cultural idioms and their deeper meanings, inspired by Mexican heritage and the complexities of language interpretation. The song invites listeners to find their own meaning within its cultural context.

SEX Sells

A commentary on social media’s normalization of fetishization, wrapped in deliberately engaging melodies. The song explores how both creators and consumers perpetuate a cycle of objectification while forming superficial online relationships.

Nightcrawler

A song about loneliness and its effect on one’s self-esteem. A reflection on how isolation can sometimes lead to an obsession with finding comfort in strangers.

Wahtzsurnayme

A song that tries to uncover the difference between love and lust. Is it wrong to have your guard up if you’re not even interested in playing the game?

N0thing

The realization that being optimistic all the time can leave you feeling like a glass half-EMPTY.

Calling

A breakup song. I’ll move on when our phones stop ringing.

"A Different Kind of IV": A Tribute to Isla Vista, CA

Composed in a single day for the band’s first live show, this high-energy tribute captures the chaotic spirit of Isla Vista’s party scene. An energetic homage to the enigmatic college town and its unique culture.

okayillleaveyoualonethen...

A satirical commentary on dating app culture, exploring the disconnect between authentic connection seekers and casual users. The song examines how societal biases create a self-sustaining cycle of superficial interactions.

AS-I Was

A break-up song: Loss is sometimes painful. Pain is sometimes lost. Pain is sometimes good. Good is sometimes painful.

Memories(?)

Am I missing you? Or is this simply memories that I can’t forget? What’s the point of living life if you don’t have snapshots to look back on? I’m grateful and resentful all at once.

:):

Life is all about perspective. Some people look forward. Some people look backwards. And like the song title, happiness is a perception too. Chasing it can drive you mad. But if you never chased, don’t get mad.

Everybody Wants to Be An Artist

A self-indulgent analysis on authenticity in the creative world, exploring the line between genuine artistic expression and the ego’s desire for recognition.

end of an album.
